Katie Speetzen spent over a decade in the classroom as a National Board Certified Teacher, watching the same pattern play out year after year: bright, capable students who knew exactly what they needed to do, but couldn’t quite get themselves to do it. The gap was never about intelligence or effort. It was about systems.
She remembers students who could explain complex ideas in class discussions, yet couldn’t find the assignment they had just completed. Students who aced tests but forgot to turn in homework. Students who desperately wanted to be successful but were overwhelmed by backpacks, planners, long-term projects, and the invisible demands of managing school. Again and again, Katie realized these weren’t motivation problems. They were executive functioning challenges, and most students had never been taught the skills they needed.
That realization pulled her toward executive functioning, the behind-the-scenes skills like planning, prioritizing, organization, time management, and emotional regulation that rarely appear on a report card but often determine whether a student feels confident or constantly overwhelmed. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree in Education from DePaul University. She spent over a decade as a classroom teacher, and the years since have included coaching, public speaking support, and helping new businesses build their own systems and structure—15+ years in all, each one shaping how she helps families build systems that actually work.
Today, Katie works with students and families because she knows that lasting change doesn’t come from another planner, another reminder, or another lecture. It comes from understanding how each student’s brain works and building systems that fit their life. Her goal isn’t to create perfectly organized kids. It’s to help students become more independent, more confident, and better equipped to navigate school and life long after coaching ends.
Trained in adolescent development and executive functioning coaching strategies, with ongoing professional development to stay current with what actually works for students and families.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all curriculum. It's a way of working that stays the same no matter what your family is facing.
We start by understanding why a system isn't working before trying to fix it—no shame, no lectures, no power struggles.
Every plan is built around your specific kid, tested in real life, and simple enough to actually stick past week one.
Coaching continues for as long as it's genuinely useful, and every family's timeline looks different. What stays constant is the goal: every system we build belongs to your student, not to me.
Twenty minutes. No pressure, no script—just a conversation about what's going on and whether coaching makes sense.
